June 29, 2014 By : Watana Alcorn Troy , NC There are Kingdom principles which Jesus taught in a variety of ways including parables. Jesus had a certain attitude toward the Gentiles. Jesus was about his father’s business throughout his ministry on earth. The principles are related to the basic and ethical teachings of Jesus Christ to his disciples and followers. Ethical teachings by Jesus were about the creation, the commandments, and about God’s personality. Basic principles taught by Jesus was on God’s love and grace for all (Stein, R.1996). Summary: This sermon by Stanley Vasu is on the five principles in the Kingdom of God which are Promise, Patience, Praise, Provision and Promotion (Vasu, Stanley). Promise- (Psalm 127:1; Genesis 11:1-9): An example is the tower of Babel. Patience- (Hebrews 6:12; Psalm 105:19): We should continue to persevere and not give up on doing what God has purposed us to do for his Kingdom. Praise- (Psalm 22:3; Joshua 6:20; Acts 16:25-26; Numbers 32:13): Two examples are when the walls of Jericho came down and when Paul and Silas were in prison and they praised God. Provision- (Matthew 6:33; Luke 5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 9:7; Luke 6:38): The verse in Matthew 6:33 (NIV) says the following: 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Promotion- (Luke 14:11; Matthew 18:1-4): Humility is an important part in promotion. I use the following in Luke 14:11 (NIV) which says: 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” My strongest are in patience, praise, and provision. Lifetime principles to continue to grow in are in promise and promotion. In patience, I have learned to wait on God instead of wanting it instantly. My praise is through my singing, praying, and through The Great Commission. In provision, I have learned that God will provide for all my needs in all areas in my life. Humility is a skill I am still working on. In promise, I have to remember God will either bless or curse me based on my obedience to him. There are also other important principles to the Kingdom of God in Christianity. They are such as to repent and be saved, take up our cross daily and follow Christ, accept Jesus words and apply them to our daily lives. Another important principle is to love all and to carry out The Great Commission for the Kingdom of God. Persevering and not giving up when Devil tempts us will lead to victory in the Kingdom of God. Discipleship as taught in Matthew centers mainly on following Christ more than following the laws. Disciples should make the Bible main instructions to follow in their lives as they admire and praise Christ (Hagner, D., 1998). An important aspect in Christianity is in Matthew 5:13-16 (Betz, H., 1998). I am known as “the Glower” among my Christian friends and family because my light for Jesus Christ is shining bright for all to see. My bright shining face has been referred to as bright as Moses face was when he came down the mountain with The Ten Commandments and had to use a veil to shield light. I have been told by people they need to wear sunshades to see me because I am so bright. My big smile, glowing face, and love for others is the same all the time and people enjoy seeing me. They say I brighten up their day and give them hope to keep persevering and to not give up on their goals. Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) which says: 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Jesus taught in proverbs, riddles, poetry, paradox, and parables were mainly used to prepare his disciples for sharing of the Gospels. Parables was Jesus favorite way of teaching (Stein, R. 1996). Jesus main parts within his ministry were healing and teaching about his Father’s business. When Jesus was twelve in the temple, Joseph and Mary asked him what he was doing. Jesus answered “I am about my Father’s business.” My prayer ministry is also Kingdom business as well. Here is a list of passages on Jesus teaching styles: -synonymous parallelism (Matthew 7:7-8; Mark 3:24-25); chiasmic parallelism (Matthew 23:12; Mark 8:35); antithetical parallelism (Matthew 6:22-23; 7:17-18); hyperbole (Matthew 5:29-30; 38-42; 7:3-5); puns (Matthew 16:18; 23:24); similes (Luke 13:34; 17:6);metaphors (Matthew 5:13; Mark 8:15); proverbs (Matthew 26:52; Mark 6:4); riddles (Matthew 1Jesu1:11; Mark 14:58); paradox (Matthew 23:27-28; Mark 12:41-44); a fortiori (Matthew 7:9-11; 10:25); irony (Matthew 16:2-3; Luke 12:16-21); and counter questions (Mark 3:1-4; 11:27-33). Jesus used parables and figurative actions more within his teachings (Mark 2:15-16; 3:14-19). A parable is a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson. A parable also conveys a meaning indirectly by the use of comparison, and analogy. My favorite parables are: The feeding of the 5,000 with 5 loaves and two fishes, and the parable of the talents. The parables I have heard while attending church regularly in my life are: The parable of lost sheep, lost coin, and the Prodigal son. The lost sheep reminds me of the great Commission to reach all for the Kingdom of God. The parable of the lost coin reminds me to be a cheerful giver as I plant seeds into the Kingdom of God. The Prodigal Son reminds me that God will accept us back if we backslide or walk out of his will. The question I ask myself when feel off course with God is:” Who moved me or God.” the answer is God did not move I did. I have used this question recently in my 24-7 prayer line prayer ministry with callers. The callers are wondering why things are going wrong and getting no better; so I ask them this question. This seems to put things in perspective not only to me but my callers as well. Here is a list of Gospel passages that tells Jesus’ overall attitude toward the Gentiles. Matthew 10:5-6 Matthew 5:44-46 John 13:35 John 15:12 Here is a list of passages about his understanding of their role within the Kingdom. Luke 4:18-19 John 1:29 1 Corinthians 5:7 1 Peter 1:19 Mark 2:18-20 Matthew 16:21 Mark 8:31 Mark 10:45; Mark 14:24; Matthew 26:28 Matthew 5:17 Mark 8:34 Matthew 28:18-20 In conclusion, Jesus teachings in parables can be beneficial for ministers today as well as in biblical times. The Kingdom principles that were mentioned are an important part of Christianity. As Christians we should love all like Jesus Christ did throughout his ministry. Jesus should be an example to follow to doing our duties for the Kingdom of God. Article by: Jamie Bowden

First of all I would like to thank everyone; the CTU faculty, advisers, and my peers for assisting me in obtaining my Associate of Science in General Studies Degree. I want to thank all of my supporters: My mother, father, family, friends, churches, and the Beautiful Blessed Diva’s. But most of all I would like thank God for allowing me a second chance and seeing the best in me.
When I was asked to write a commencement speech I was a little surprised but not much because I know in my heart when you make a commitment to anything and stick with it you will see results and rewards in the end. The one word that came to my mind was triumph. Triumph has many different meanings and to me my triumph meant to be victorious, an achiever of achievements; and to rejoice over my success. Three years ago I did not see myself as a graduating student from any college; I only saw someone who was alive but was not living. Because I had been through so much in my life I thought that what I had been through was who I had to be. Determined to get more out of a bad situation I enrolled at CTU and was not only determined that I was going to be a better person but I was going to commit and succeed no matter how tough it got. I was determined to overcome all my obstacles; and to be an example to my children; my granddaughter; family, friends and whomever path that I may have come across. I wanted to show anyone and everyone that would listen that no matter how dark the night gets that there is light in every situation. As a graduate I will not say goodbye to my past but I will leave it as is; because it made me a better student, mother, and woman. Going back to school should not only be a choice but it is a privilege, honor, and opportunity for you to empower others and yourself. The journey is never easy but it can be managed with the right knowledge and effort put toward your goal. No matter where you are at in life there is an opportunity that waits for you to make your appearance. Triumph does not come easy either; in fact mine came with a lot of sleepless nights, tears, adversity, haters, and financial impairment. As Maya Angelou said, “All great achievements require time”. I recommend that use this time that you have been given to enjoy life; to enjoy your small milestones, as well as the big milestones. They will all add up to greatness eventually. So, I would like to say to everyone who has a dream, gift or goal take what you love and be the best you that you can be. If you fail at something and you truly love it go back and try it again. Remember to laugh, love, give, pray, and keep pushing yourself to try and do new things every day; even if it is something simple as changing the color of your hair. Never give up; let your faith be your unmovable rock. Being faithful, honest, humble, and steadfast to yourself will not only gain you success but it will make u happier. There comes a time when you are going to realize that faith maybe the only thing standing when all else fails. I am honored to be part of the 2013 Colorado Technical University online virtual campus Graduating class! My final thought is “Do not measure me by my success but by the many times that I fell and got back up”. Triumph By:Jamie Bowden |
